Uniting Hands, Growing Community, Planting the Future

SPONSOR through our "VOLUNTEER BUCKS" program

The Huntington Community Gardens project is beginning our second year of creating beauty, fresh food and education in the Fairfield Community. Last year, the community came together to create six successful gardens of food and flower which brought hope and a sense of unity to those people most in need of these experiences in inner city Huntington.

We hope that you will join us in this amazing adventure. We have a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between local business and community members in a collaborative effort which promises to bring positive economic development and strengthen community pride in the parts of our town which have historically been blighted and underserved.

Because our project is, by nature, a grassroots community building effort, we have the opportunity to reach people on a personal level. The nature of gardening itself provides a venue which people of all backgrounds and skill sets can participate productively and find personal meaning and see tangible evidence of their successes.

We would like to partner with local businesses to help promote volunteerism and participation in our community revitalization programming. The following is a description of how your business can support this progressive movement in Huntington.

  1. You make a financial contribution, or donate products or services to be raffled off at our Earth Day event April 22, 2010. .
  2. The retail value of that product or service, or your financial contribution, would be calculated into “Volunteer Bucks”. HCG would then pledge to recruit volunteers to work on community revitalization projects throughout the community at a ratio of $10 per “volunteer buck” hour. For example, your product is worth $50, so we pledge 5 hours of volunteer work. .
  3. We will then promote the volunteer work days accrued in the name of the businesses who donated products and services in the newspaper and in other media. For example, one work day would be “The Home Depot Community Work Day”, thus creating a public awareness of your business’ commitment to the revitalization of Huntington.

We work in partnership with the Huntington Area Revitalization Coalition, which is a 501c3 organization and your donations are tax deductible.
